Central Nervous System Injury

Description

Injuries to the brain are traditionally evaluated as primary or secondary injuries.  EMS can impact secondary injury both positively and negatively.  Your approach and care of these patients have dramatic impact on their long term outcome and survival.  This module follows Alabama Guidelines.

• Identify the signs and symptoms of a patient with a traumatic brain injury (TBI)
• Differentiate between the various levels of TBI
• Explain the use of ETCO2 readings as a guide for ventilating the head injury patient
• Review the current research and practices for the use of selective spinal immobilization
